Police in Wiltshire are searching for a wanted man after hares were illegally chased and killed by hounds in Wiltshire.

Hare coursing is an illegal activity in the UK where dogs are used to chase, catch and kill hares.

Tougher government measures which came into force in 2022 now mean that anyone caught hare causing can face an unlimited fine and up to six months in prison.

But Wiltshire Police believe they have found CCTV images of a man connected to an incident of hare coursing and criminal damage which took place in the village of All Cannings, near Devizes.

"It’s a barbaric bloodsport that sees hare cruelly chased, caught and killed by dogs," said RSPCA Head of Wildlife Adam Grogan.

Images of the male who has short brunette hair show him driving a silver Jeep Cherokee.

Police are now asking for the public's help in their investigations.

Although brown hares are widespread across the UK, their numbers are declining and are now estimated at less than half a million in England due to illegal activity such as hare coursing as well as habitat loss.
