Controversial plans for more than 450 homes on the outskirts of a Wiltshire town will be debated by town councillors.

Chippenham Town Council’s planning committee will have its chance to comment on plans for phase two of the Rawlings Green development, which were submitted in October, at a meeting on Thursday, November 14.

The proposal includes detailed designs for the layout of 454 homes on the northeastern edge of Chippenham, alongside a 66-bed care home, five commercial buildings, and a country park.

Plans are already under consultation for phase one of the scheme, which would deliver another 196 homes.

This application has been controversial due to fears over increased traffic in Monkton Park.

Outline planning permission for the development was granted in 2021.

A condition of this approval is that a new eastern link road will be built before 200 homes are occupied to give residents another route out of the large estate.

Applicants Summix and Crest Nicholson say a separate application will be submitted in due course to determine the design of this route.

If approved, the road would link the development and Monkton Park to Parsonage Way via a new railway bridge.

A school is also proposed for the development, but the details of this phase are not covered by the most recent application.
