A busy A-road in Wiltshire is facing a sudden closure as 'urgent' as underground repairs begin.

Broadband company Openreach has confirmed that the A360 West Lavington, near Devizes, will close from 9pm on Thursday, November 9 and won't open again until 6am the next day.

The sudden announcement comes following a sudden loss of broadband for customers in the area due to issues with cabling.

Openreach says it now requires "urgent access" to the underground structure in order to fix the issue.

The busy A road will be closed from its junction with Rutts Lane to its junction with Duck Street, and motorists travelling in the area between 9pm and 6pm should follow the alternative route set out by Wiltshire Council.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said: "The following length of road shall be closed to all traffic in the interests of public safety to enable Openreach to carry out urgent access to underground structure.

"These works will commence on November 7, 2024 and are anticipated to be required for 9 hours between the hours of 21:00 and 06:00.

"This notice will have a maximum duration of 5 days."
