A road closure that caused a “traffic nightmare” in a Wiltshire town for days has ended.

Stallard Street in Trowbridge was closed between the Trinity Roundabout and the junction with Station Approach from Saturday, October 26, until Sunday, November 3.

During this time, Wales & West Utilities carried out work in the area and there were significant delays for drivers heading in and out of Trowbridge town centre.

The utilities company used the road closure to bore holes to find and fix a gas leak close to the railway bridge.

During the closure, frustrated residents complained of congestion in the area, with huge queues stretching along some of the town’s busiest roads during peak times.

The start of the scheme coincided with multiple other roadworks which contributed to delays across the town.

At the time, businessman Cllr Edward Kirk, a Trowbridge town and Wiltshire councillor, said: “Whilst I am sure Wiltshire Council’s objective is to plan the necessary Trowbridge roadworks to cause the minimum amount of confusion and delay, this simply hasn’t worked across Trowbridge.”
