More than 7,000 knitted poppies will cascade from a church tower in a Wiltshire village to mark Remembrance Sunday.

The woollen flowers, made by more than 200 volunteers in Holt, will adorn the bell tower of St Katharine's Church and be on show at other locations in the village from November 1 to 18.

The idea began in January when 100 people offered to knit or crochet poppies.

Volunteers ranged from the ages of four to 96, and more than 7,000 poppies have now been made.

Handmade brooches, clips, keyrings, and hair slides will be sold outside The Wild Herb at The Glove Factory from November 5 to 11, with all proceeds going to the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.

The Glove Factory-based publishing company 'From You to Me' is documenting the year-long project in a book, which will include local stories of war casualties.

The poppy cascade will be hoisted up the bell tower at 10am on November 1.
