A repeat offender who drove into a barrier in a supermarket car park and fled the scene has been jailed.
Ionut Munteanu, 38, of Surrey, pleaded guilty to several offences at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 21.
The court heard how Munteanu had crashed his Vauxhall Astra into a barrier at Sainsbury’s in Chippenham at around 1pm on October 20.
He knocked the front bumper off the vehicle but continued to flee the scene in his car.
Officers, who had received a call about the incident from a member of the public, caught up with his car on the A420.
They found Munteanu visibly intoxicated in the driver’s seat and he failed a roadside breath test.
Munteanu was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and checks revealed he had no car insurance and was disqualified from driving, so he was further arrested for these offences in addition to failing to stop after a road traffic collision.
He had been serving a suspended prison sentence for a previous drink driving offence when the incident on Sunday occurred.
Swindon Magistrates Court activated his 20-week suspended sentence and ordered him to serve a further 12-week prison sentence immediately.
Munteanu was also disqualified from driving for three years and ordered to pay a £154 surcharge.
