More than 4,200 rural residents and business owners in Bradford on Avon are set to enjoy faster broadband speeds and a more reliable service.

Engineers from telecoms company Gigaclear are set to complete work to extend a full fibre broadband connection to them this month.

They have been going street-to-street digging new trenches or using existing infrastructure such as poles and ducting in order to reach each property.

Full fibre broadband can provide download speeds of up to 900 Mbps or even 1,000 Mbps in some locations.

This is much faster than standard broadband, which uses a combination of fibre and copper cables, and can be shared with neighbours.

Senior project manager Lynnette Rowland said Gigaclear is working hard to ensure rural communities such as Bradford on Avon can access the same fast and reliable full fibre broadband enjoyed by larger urban areas.

“Taking our full fibre to rural communities that might otherwise have copper or an inferior part fibre broadband connection fundamentally changes them for the better because it creates choice for the people in those communities about how they work and how they live their lives,” she said.
