A new Indian restaurant and takeaway outlet is to open in Melksham following the closure of a Thai takeaway.

Businessman Md Shojib Uddin, of Rajpoot Indian Ltd, has taken over the old Davana Thai premises in Bath Road.

From Wednesday, October 30 the Grand Sultan will be welcoming dine-in customers.

Mr Uddin also owns the Cinnamon Indian takeaway in Melksham High Street.

He has created eight new jobs, in addition to the four people who already work at Cinnamon.

Mr Uddin, 29, said: “We would like to welcome people to come and try the menu at the Grand Sultan when we open.”

Mr Uddin said the original opening date of Wednesday, October 16 had been delayed because of delivery problems.

A notice posted on the window says: “We are excited to announce that we will be opening our doors on October 16, 2024.

“Initially, we will only be providing takeaway and delivery orders.

“Starting week of the October 21 we will introduce and be happy to welcome dine-in customers.

“We greatly appreciate your patience and look forward to serving you all soon.”

The Grand Sultan will open from Sunday to Thursday, 5pm to 10.30pm, and on Friday and Saturday, 5pm to 11pm.
