A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "Be advised to make sure your doors and windows are kept locked.

"One in three burglaries gain access through an open window or door.

"Make sure sheds and garages are secure, locking away any tools or ladders that will assist a burglar.

"If you're out late leave one or two lights on to give the impression you're at home and never leave a spare key in a hiding place - burglars will look there first."
