A ‘good neighbour’ who creates a ‘binhenge’ every week to rival Bath’s famous Royal Crescent says he is just helping some of the residents on his road.
Andy Rose, 59, has been helping out several of his neighbours for the past ten years on the road where he lives in Bradford on Avon.
He regularly puts out around 20 bins and arranges them in a crescent for Wiltshire Council’s bin-men to collect on a fortnightly basis.
Now Andy, who lives in Avon Close, is being praised by residents who appreciate his efforts to make their lives easier.
His next-door neighbour Karl Booth said: “Andy is just a really nice chap. He is a really good neighbour.
“Bath may think it's something special with its Royal Crescent but we have our own bin crescent in Avon Close, BoA, thanks to our fantastic neighbour Andy.”
Another, Maria Gray, added: “We have our own Binhenge. Andrew Rose, you’rer a super human.”
And Kate Loescher said: “You can’t beat Avon Close! We may have 45 houses all crammed together, but the neighbours are great and there’s nowhere I’d rather live in BoA.”
Andy, who drives a delivery van for Wiltshire Farm Foods in Trowbridge, has lived in Avon Close for 37 years.
He said: “I have been doing it for the past ten years. I started doing it to help an elderly lady whose husband had died and it just went from there.
“When Wiltshire Council changed the bin days, some of the neighbours got confused, so I started helping them out as well.”
When he can’t put out and take in the bins, his son Dominic Rose, 30, gives the neighbours a helping hand.
He said: “It’s something that Dad has always done. If Dad’s going away on holiday, he asks me to do it. He does it every week.”
Andy puts out the recycling bins on Wednesday for Thursday collection, and the grey domestic waste bins on Thursday evening for Friday collection.
He doesn’t touch the green bins for garden waste but he has been known to cut the grass and hedges for some of his neighbours.
Back in 2017, the Selwood Housing Association in Trowbridge gave Andy an award for being a ‘good neighbour’.
But Mr Rose says he doesn’t do it for the awards or the occasional gifts of chocolates and alcohol he receives.
Dominic said: “He just enjoys doing it. He gets the steps in and does it for a bit of exercise.”
