Plans have been approved for the refurbishment of a town centre pub amidst plans to rebrand and rename the venue.

Ben and Tom Morgan, of the BeeTees group, took over The Courthouse at Castle Street, Trowbridge, in February this year.

The pair signed a lease with Star Pubs & Bars to manage the business and closed it for four months while a major renovation was carried out in time to reopen for summer.

In July, they revealed plans to refresh the venue and rename it the Moody Goose, as part of a project to overcome the pub’s previous poor reputation.

At the time, Tom said: “We asked for the name to be changed to get rid of all the bad stigma. It has been a red stain on their portfolio for the last eight years.

“For us, it’s about giving the pub a fresh start and a fresh lease of life. We have got some big plans for it.”

This includes fascia signage, a freestanding A board, and a projected hanging sign to replace the existing signage.

Wiltshire Council has now given the green light for these changes to go ahead, allowing the landlords to continue their extensive rebrand of the pub.

The landmark building is one of the oldest pubs in Trowbridge and in total up to £100,000 of investment is going into refurbishing and modernising the venue, as well as staff accommodation in the residential flat above.

It has been known as The Courthouse since the 1970s but previous names have included The Sun, Dickens, and Ye Old Farmhouse.

The BeeTees Group already runs BeeTees Cafe at County Hall, the BeeTees Cafe and Bar in Market Street, the Wiltshire Yeoman in Chilmark Road, and the Canal Tavern in Frome Road, Bradford on Avon.

They said: “We just love Trowbridge town centre.

“When we came here in 2013, there were so many more pubs open in the town centre and we want to bring that back.

“We would like to get live music in there every weekend, especially in the town centre as a lot of people like to go out on a Friday night.”
