A teenage girl has been seriously injured after being hit by a car on her way to school.

Emergency services responded to the incident on County Way, Trowbridge at 8:12am on Monday morning and an eyewitness reported seeing five emergency vehicles at the scene, including a critical care ambulance.

Police closed the road between Bradley Road and the Longfield Roundabout and advised drivers to avoid the area, while parts of Frome Road had been brought to a standstill during rush hour.

A 14-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision with a grey Vauxhall car on the pedestrian crossing on County Way and the road reopened nearly two hours later.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision on County Way, Trowbridge, which took place at around 8.12am this morning (07/10).

“A 14-year-old girl was hit by a car while crossing the road on her way to school.

“She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
