The search for missing emu Irwin is entering its fourth day and there have still not been any sightings of him.

Malmesbury Animal Sanctuary posted to social media on Monday, September 30 sharing that their beloved Irwin had gone missing, which was very “unusual” behaviour for him.

Fearing the bird, which has lived on the field for over five years, had been “swept downstream”, the sanctuary launched an urgent appeal for locals to join their search.

On Thursday, they thanked people for their support but said they were still no closer to locating Irwin.

The post read: “It’s become apparent how many people in the local community are searching or keeping an eye out for him and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

“We aren’t giving up hope, however accessible areas are being searched over and over to no avail. He could survive for a long time simply foraging and ambling along in the hedgerows so please do carry on keeping a look out.

“If he’s out there he’s unlikely to approach you and will probably just hide away again. If anyone has a sighting please send up a dropped pin with the location to: 07818426060.”
