Police have been waiting to catch speeding drivers travelling through a Wiltshire village.

Officers from the Devizes Neighbourhood Team were stationed in Great Cheverell on the morning of Sunday, September 29.

Speed checks were carried out on the 20mph road through the village and no drivers were caught exceeding this limit during the operation.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “PC 70510 and PC 70956 attended Great Cheverell this morning to ensure drivers are adhering to the 20mph speed limit.

“Whilst police were present, all drivers kept to the speed restriction.”

In total, 4,021 letters were sent to drivers between July 2020 and August 22, 2024, warning them about the speed they were travelling.

During this time, teams have been conducting checks at Brickley Lane in Devizes, Great Cheverell, Market Lavington, Rowde, Seend, and Worton.

Great Cheverell saw the second most letters sent out of all the Community Speed Watch areas in and around Devizes, with 1,481, behind Worton where 1,713 people were contacted.
