House prices for first-time buyers have soared in Wiltshire over the last year, new figures show.

Data released by the Land Registry shows first-time buyers spent an average of £261,300 on their properties in July 2024.

This is £7,500 more than last year and a whopping £46,100 more than in July 2019.

This comes as Wiltshire house prices in the county increased by a further 1.2 per cent in July, more than the average rise across the southwest.

The typical Wiltshire house now costs £329,279, with the average sale cost increasing by £8,200 over the last 12 months.

This is higher than both the average price in the southwest of England, which was £320,415 in July, and the average across the UK as a whole, which was £289,723.

Last year, current Prime Minister Keir Starmer committed a Labour government to ensuring house prices drop around the country.

Speaking to Times Radio, he said: “We want to make sure that many more houses are built and that the price comes down because of course what we want is good quality, secure houses, but also houses that people can afford.”
