20mph speed limits have been approved for nearly a dozen roads in a Wiltshire town.

At a planning committee meeting on Wednesday, September 18, Calne town councillors were informed that plans for 20mph speed limits on 10 routes in the town had been approved in August.

The new limits came into effect on August 26, pending the installation of signage warning drivers.

Included in the scheme is the complete length of Clover Grove, Finch Lane, Hawthorne Close, Juniper Close, Larkspur Drive, Lovage Lane, Lupin Close, Sorrel Street, Sparrow Crescent, and Sycamore Drive.

Roads through the estate were designed to have a 20mph speed limit and this has now been introduced after Wiltshire Council carried out a consultation earlier in the summer.

The cost of enforcing the scheme will be funded by developer Hill Homes.

During the consultation, a council spokesperson said: “The roads known as High Penn, which have been granted planning permission and are covered by a Section 38 agreement with the Council, have been designed and built to be self-enforcing 20mph.

“The developer will meet the costs of the signage, traffic regulation order, and implementation.”
