Warminster council has again been forced to close the lake at the town’s main recreation park following the discovery of toxic algae bloom.
The closure means that boaters will be unable to use it and dogs should also not be allowed to go into the water.
The town council issued a warning on social media, saying: “The lake in the Lake Pleasure Grounds has been closed as a precaution after an algal bloom was identified.
“People and pets should avoid the lake while the situation is further investigated.
“The parks team will continue to monitor the situation. Facilities remain open despite the lake currently being closed.”
The popular lake was closed in early July after toxic Blue-Green Algae Bloom was found. It is not yet known whether the algae bloom just found is the same.
A council spokesperson said they are "waiting for a change in the weather" in the hope the algae bloom will disappear naturally.
The Environment Agency says the council needs either rain or a high volume of very bright sunshine to clear the bloom.
Algae blooms generally appear as green or greenish-brown scum on the surface of water and can contain toxins that can be harmful to animals if ingested, even in small quantities.
