Controversial plans for 150 new homes off a busy A-road have moved a step closer to construction after passing a milestone in the planning process.

Corsham residents previously expressed their concerns over the potential “gridlock” that would be caused by the proposed development on the edge of the town.

GTBE LLP submitted plans for the land to the north of the A4 in June and has now received an update on the proposal.

This will allow the developer, Origin3, to move forwards with the application process without submitting an EIA.

In its outline planning application, Origin3 stated: “The vision for the land north of Bath Road is to deliver a flourishing, distinctive, and residential led extension to North Corsham, where future and existing residents will be proud to live and work in a place where the outstanding natural environment contributes to the quality of life and well-being.”

In other planning news, a new war memorial plaque is set to be installed in Chippenham for civilians of the town who lost their lives during the Second World War.

It is due to sit on the east facing plinth and will contain the names and ages of 11 civilians killed during the Second World War in Chippenham.

There will also be a reference to the animals who gave their lives in service during the conflict.

The case officer report said: “The proposed new works are considered to be appropriate in this case to allow the fabric of the building to be consolidated and additional commemorative information displayed as part of a wider understanding of the events that occurred during the Second World War.”

Meanwhile, down in Warminster, a care home extension has also been approved.

Wren House nursing home is set to build an extra seven bedrooms, along with a new conservatory.

The new bedroom wing will wrap around the central garden, and the conservatory will include a day and dining room.

In Devizes, a local café and restaurant, At the Marina, has been granted permission to open later in the evening.

Now that Wiltshire Council has given the go-ahead, the venue will be open from Wednesdays through to Saturdays until 10pm.

The application noted: “Expanding their opening hours will enable the facility to offer evening meals and drinks to boaters and other customers.

“This will complement the existing marina facilities, assist with feasibility of the café/restaurant in its own right and provide an associated income back in support of the marina.”

Also among recently approved applications are plans for a new riding arena at Stonar School, near Atworth.

The Wiltshire boarding school is described as the UK's leading equestrian school and the work set to be carried out will also include the construction of a new stable block.

Up near Swindon, a planning application has been submitted for nine new homes on Stone Lane, leading out of Lydiard Millicent.

The homes would be constructed on the paddock land adjoining number 39a and Wiltshire Council is expected to make a decision by the end of October.

A proposal has also been received for 5 homes in Christian Malford, at 40 Main Road.

The development would be rectangular in shape with a central access road between the properties with garage and car parking.

The consultation is open until Thursday, October 10.

Finally, five new homes have been approved at Penrose Cottage, on Penleigh Road, in Westbury.
