Wiltshire Police have revealed the reason for the evacuation of their headquarters on Tuesday evening.
The Wiltshire Police Headquarters in London Road, Devizes, were evacuated on Tuesday, September 10 just before 8pm.
Officers released a statement advising the public to avoid the area while emergency services responded to the incident, before later being stood down shortly after 9pm.
Although it was unclear what had happened at the time, officers issued a statement on Tuesday evening just before 9:45pm confirming the measures were “precautionary” and said there were no reported injuries and no arrests had been made.
The statement added: "Contrary to some inaccurate media speculation, there is categorically no link to terrorism."
This afternoon Wiltshire Police have issued another statement clarifying the details of the incident and said the evacuation and search of their headquarters were prompted by non-malicious communication from a vulnerable person and reiterated that precautionary measures were quickly put in place to protect staff and the public.

They have also reassured the public that there was never a risk to them and they will be reviewing their procedures following the incident.
Deputy Chief Constable, Craig Dibdin. said: “Yesterday evening, we responded to a report of a possible security breach at Police Headquarters Devizes.
“Whilst we were developing the information, a number of precautionary steps were taken to ensure the immediate safety of those on the HQ site including enactment of our security procedures and the deployment of armed officers.
“However, as new information came to light, commanders were able to identify that there had been no security breach.
“The reporting person, who was having a medical episode, was located by officers at their home address. There was no malicious intent by the reporting person.
“As per standard practice, we are taking the opportunity to review our procedures and response to this incident.
“At no point was there any threat to the public, officers or HQ staff.”
