An elderly woman challenged an alleged burglar who had entered his house, leading the intruder to leave.

The intrusion happened in Lyneham around 2am on Friday, September 6 and is being investigated by Wiltshire Police’s burglary team.

The elderly resident was reportedly awoken by a man in her home in Lillybrook Estate and although nothing is though to have been taken she was left disturbed.

A police spokesperson said: “When challenged, the man left the scene. It’s not believed anything was stolen but damage was caused to the front door lock and the victim was left understandably shaken up and distressed.

“Officers from our burglary team are currently carrying out extensive enquiries and would urge anyone with information to get in touch.
