One of Trowbridge’s oldest historic buildings has been tidied up for the start of this year’s Heritage Open Days after being labelled an “absolute disgrace”.
The chair of Trowbridge Civic Society, Cllr Glyn Bridges, complained about the dire state of The Blind House in Wicker Hill which was cloaked in weeds.
Cllr Bridges said: “It’s an absolute disgrace.
“I could not believe the number of weeds that have been allowed to grow around the Blind House. It is pretty bad.”
Following his criticism, town council workers went out to clear the weeds, with the exception of two buddleia plants whose roots were embedded in the roof and were dealt with later.
The Grade II listed two cell lock-up, dated 1757, will likely be one of the top attractions for visitors during this year’s Heritage Open Days from Friday, September 6.
Trowbridge Town Council leader Cllr Stewart Palmen said: "The Blind House is now looking great for the Heritage open days!
“The Blind house will be open on Saturday, September 14 all day for those who are interest in taking a peak.”
