Police are appealing for witnesses following an alleged burglary at a Trowbridge DIY and discount store.

Teams of uniformed police and forensic investigations officers were spotted at the Proper Job DIY store in Yeoman Way, off Bradley Road.

The investigation follows an alleged burglary at the store in the early hours of Thursday, August 29.

Neighbours heard the shop alarms sounding at around 4.30am. The store was taped off and closed while officers conducted their investigation.

It is understood that a window was broken at the back of the store and the front door was also damaged.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for witnesses following reports of a burglary at a unit on Yeoman Way, Trowbridge just after 4.30am this morning (29/08)."

"Officers were alerted to the alarm being activated and have a scene in place while they carry out an investigation.

"If you saw anything suspicious or have CCTV that could help with our enquiries, please contact us on 101 quoting log 28 of today's date (29/08)."

It is not yet clear exactly what was stolen and its value.

The store is usually open from 8am to 5pm but is currently not responding to phone calls.

The Trowbridge store is part of the Proper Job chain and sells a wide range of power tools and household goods to tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts.

Proper Job was founded by father and son Ray and Peter Tilley in 1997 in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset.  The company originally started as a wholesale business in Cornwall in the 1980s called Tilley's Tools. 

After a few very successful years there, the Tilleys moved the operation in 1997 to a warehouse in Weston-super-Mare where they ran a wholesale business and changed its name.

Proper Job has since opened stores in Weston-super-Mare town centre and Worle high street, Minehead, Glastonbury, Street, Clevedon, Burnham-on-Sea, Bridgwater, Frome, Gloucester, Brislington, Trowbridge, Chard, Radstock, Highbridge, Coleford, Taunton and Somerton.

The stores sell a variety of products, including tools, paint, wood, blinds, curtain poles, floor tiles, garden products, electrical products, and general household products.
