Joint leaders Frome Town Sports came away with a comfortable 8-1 victory from their game at FC Northbridge.
Joe Upshall opened the scoring for the visitors after five minutes and James Hounsell then made it 2-0 after 16 minutes. On the half hour mark Northbridge conceded their third goal as Phil Webley scored and with two minutes of the first half remaining James Hounsell scored his second to make it 4-0.
The second period started a little better for FC Northbridge as they scored their only goal through John Taylor, but their relief lasted only until the 61st minute when Frome started scoring again, this time Joe Upshall getting his second. It became 7-1 as first Northbridge scored an own goal after 69 minutes and then a minute later Sean Cox scored Frome's eighth and final goal.
Seend United 7, Freshford United 1
SEEND United remain top on goal difference after putting seven goal past Freshford United.
The match started with both teams pressing and playing exciting football, but it was the home side that broke the deadlock through Gary Higdon to make it 1-0 to Seend at the interval.
The second half started with Freshford getting back on level terms with a goal from Neil Birleson, but this only seemed to motivate Seend to step up a gear and score at will. Gary Higdon scored another three goals to make it 4-1, before Chris Styles and Mike Hopkins made it 6-1. Freshford then scored the final goal, but unfortunately it was into their own net to make it 7-1.
Steeple Ashton 2, Trowbridge Town A 1
A SCRAPPY and keenly contested game between Steeple Ashton and last season's runners up Trowbridge Town A was done and dusted by half- time.
A Sam Stevens' corner was met by Steve Coveney and the ball flew into the net off his back for a 1-0 lead for the villagers.
Trowbridge then should have pulled a goal back after Ashton goalkeeper John Jones made a mistake but Mark Barnett bailed him out with a great tackle. Neil Taylor then made it 2-0 with a wonder strike from 40 yards out left the Trowbridge goalkeeper grasping for air.
For some reason Ashton then went to sleep and left Sean Daniels all the space he needed in the box to slot home for 2-1.
The second period saw John Jones drop another clanger in goal, but this time he was saved by the referee, who disallowed Lee Hayward's effort.
This led to a period of backs to the wall Ashton defending with Barnett and Coveney outstanding. Trowbridge continued to batter the Ashton defence, Hayward hitting the post twice in quick succession, but with the storm weathered Ashton then went on the attack again, and thought they had scored their third goal through substitute Anthony Pritchard only for it to be disallowed by the referee for an earlier foul.
The Deverills 3, Blue Circle 0
THE Deverills played host to Blue Circle in the first league match of the season for both teams and it was the home side who came out on top with a 3-0 win.
Blue Circle had the first chance of the match to score with a penalty, which was promptly missed. The Deverills then gradually took control of the game and scored through Lee Carpenter and by half-time they had doubled the lead, with Mike Payne scoring.
The second period saw few chances being taken by both sides, but Nick Bunyard did manage to make it 3-0 for The Deverills in the last five minutes.
Westbury United A 1, Semington Magpies 2
SEMINGTON Magpies travelled to Westbury for their first league game in the top flight, but the occasion was marred as Andy Goodenough fractured a tibia in his leg after only two minutes.
This incident overshadowed the first half with both teams having few chances and the match was all square at the interval.
The second period saw the Magpies take the lead midway through the half when Dan Rimmer dazzled the Westbury defence with his silky skills and beat three defenders before chipping the goalkeeper from close range.
Westbury were then soon back in the game when the Semington goalkeeper dropped the ball at the feet of Westbury striker Ashley Easton who tapped the ball into an empty net. With only two minutes left on the clock Andrew Harrison scored the winner for Semington from 30 yards with a superb strike that left the Westbury goalkeeper with no chance.
Semington Magpies would like to wish Andy Goodenough a speedy recovery.
