Work on converting a historic 19th century church in Trowbridge is expected to be completed by October.

Developers Ingenic Developments (Trowbridge) Ltd is converting the former United Reformed Church in Church Street into 29 character properties collectively known as The Tabernacle.

The Winchester-based company has since started work on the second phase of 24 properties, which are being marketed for sale by local residential estate agents Davies & Davies.

Vanessa Randall-Short, Davies & Davies’ land and new homes sales adviser, said: “All five plots in Phase 1 are now reserved and Phase 2 has just been launched.

“They comprise 24 apartments and some of them are massive duplexes. Some are the size of a four-bedroomed detached house.”

Members of Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce are being invited to tour The Tabernacle development on Wednesday, October 2.

The former United Reformed Church closed in 2016 and the 1.1-acre site was later advertised for sale at £2.25 million with planning consent for 26 homes and apartments.

The buildings on the site have now been sympathetically developed into 29 Grade II-listed properties, including cottages, apartments and contemporary homes, most with original features.

The three directors of Ingenic Developments, Rebcca Inge, Colin Boyce and Anne Oddie, said: “We have set up a limited company to purchase and develop a Grade 2 listed asset in the heart of Trowbridge. Our mission is to market the development as a Trowbridge success.

“Since purchasing the United Reformed Church site in 2018 we have worked closely with our architect David Beresford-Smith to design the optimal residential conversion.

“Our brief was to create beautiful homes, in a unique environment, with an emphasis of incorporating the existing stunning features of the Grade 2 listed properties.

“Our project will create 29 dwellings a short distance from the town centre and will bring significant additional spending power to local businesses.

“The initial five residences have been sold and the remaining 24 are soon to be completed.”

Davies & Davies says The Tabernacle offers landscaped communal courtyard areas for residents to enjoy, creating a tranquil escape in the centre of town.

They add: “It is the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the architectural features and history this beautiful building has to offer.

“This is an extremely rare opportunity to purchase within this landmark development, offering something totally different.”

The Tabernacle development has easy access to the town centre and secure allocated parking for each property.
