Residents of Trowbridge are being urged to let the town council know if they have unsightly weeds growing on the roads and pavements outside their homes.
The town council is looking to target the side roads not covered by Wiltshire Council plans to spray weeds at the side of the main roads into Trowbridge.
Cllr Mel Jacob said: “If you have areas where you live that have weeds on the side of road that need attention the Town Council are trying to work on these.
“Main roads are being done by Wiltshire Council in October – for example, Hilperton Road, Leap Gate and County Way.
“We now want to take it a step forward and are encouraging people to tell us if there is a particularly bad spot in their area and they are going to go out and do it, which is great.
“But please be mindful that if everybody says their areas are bad they are not going to be able to do all of them at the same time. There’s only so many people in the team.”
The town council is looking for a community approach to tackling the weeds after recognising that it’s time for a ‘deep clean’ to get rid of them.
Cllr Jacob said: “The weather has been so dry and the grass isn’t growing so quickly, so they can divert resources to looking at weeds.
“I am really hopeful that we can get on top of them because they were never done it for ten years or so. If we can keep on top of it, it won’t ever get so bad again.
“I know that people find it really frustrating but slow and steady is where we are.
“The town council neighbourhood services team is trying to get round to the worst areas and pick them off one by one.”
Trowbridge Town Council leader Stewart Palmen added: “Please let Trowbridge Town Council know if there are areas that really need attention in Central Trowbridge.”
Cllr David Cavill said: “This problem is not just with us in Trowbridge. There are weeds three feet high on the main road going into Bath and it is the same in Westbury, Warminster and Melksham.
“This does not diminish or excuse the problem but I hope puts in perspective for those who think that it is confined to Trowbridge.”
Anyone wishing to submit reports of areas needing attention should email report@trowbridge.gov.uk.
