Angry residents on a Trowbridge housing development have again complained to the town council about its failure to cut strips of grass, saying it’s just not acceptable.

They are disputing claims by town council officers that grass on open public spaces has been cut, saying areas that should have been mown have been missed.

Stewart Benford, of the Castle Mead Residents Group, said they have repeatedly asked the town council to cut the grass but nothing has happened.

He plans to meet with his council ward member Mel Jacob next week to show her the grass strips that need to be cut.

He said: “We had the same problem last summer and it has started again this season. It has become a mess again.

"I have been raising this for weeks and weeks now has nothing been done or checked against the map.”

The row has revived a dispute that arose in the summer of last year between the Castle Mead residents and the town council over strips of uncut grass.

The problems arose after Wiltshire Council handed over responsibility for grass cutting of some areas on the Castle Mead estate to Trowbridge Town Council.

Mr Benford, 53, of Thirsk Drive, recently raised a complaint with the town council, only to be told there was no record of a complaint from him.

He has asked to meet council officers, the local ward member Cllr Mel Jacob and  MP Andrew Murrison, on site on Wednesday to explain which strips of grass are the council’s responsibility.

He says areas being cut by the GreenSquare estate maintenance team are well maintained and not causing any problems.

Cllr Mel Jacob said: “When the service strips were first handed over from Wiltshire Council to TTC there was incomplete information shared and there was some confusion about who was responsible for which areas.  There was some debate about this last year.

“There is a mixture of private land, land maintained by GreenSquare and land now maintained by town council all in together - a very bad bit of planning in my opinion as it leads to issues like this one. There are pieces of land that residents choose not to mow regularly.

“I've spoken to the town council and they believe they are doing all correct areas.  I've looked with representatives from GreenSquare as well.

"I'm due to meet Mr Benford in the next week to try and work out what's gone wrong.”

Trowbridge Town Council has been contacted for a comment.
