Police say there have been recent reports of keyless cars being stolen in an area of Wiltshire, and are urging owners to be vigilant.

Wiltshire Police have had reports of thefts in Corsham, Atworth, Neston and Melksham, for which it says enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson said: “We would like to remind owners of keyless cars that the single most important bit of crime prevention action they can take is to ensure you have a Faraday pouch where you can keep your keys when inside your home.

“This will block any signals and help prevent criminals from making off with your vehicle.”

Other tips provided by the police include ensuring all spare keyless fobs are protected in the same way that the main key is protected, and knowing where spare keys are kept.

They also suggest fitting a steering wheel lock, home CCTV, bollards or driveway gates to act as physical barriers to theft.

You can also fit a tracking device to your car, or park non-keyless cars in front of or behind a keyless vehicle so as to make it more difficult to steal.

Lastly, owners are encouraged to speak to their vehicle’s manufacturer about preventative advice including changing the vehicle’s security and convenience settings.
