A Wiltshire pre-school threatened with the closure of its premises has been given a three-year reprieve.

Rainbow Early Years in Holbrook Lane, Trowbridge, was told by Wiltshire Council earlier this year that its leased building was "beyond economical repair".

The preschool was quoted between £400,000 and £950,000 to replace the timber building next to the Holbrook Primary School.

Now Wiltshire Council has handed Rainbow a much-needed lifeline after inaccuracies were found in an initial building survey assessment.

The extension to its lease to July 2028 has given the preschool vital breathing space to enable staff to secure its future.

Hayley Galliers, setting manager at Rainbow Early Years, said: “We are so incredibly grateful to Wiltshire Council for working with us to rectify the situation.

“This extension gives us a much-needed break, allowing us to focus on fundraising while ensuring the continuity of our vital services for the community.”

The registered charity had faced the daunting task of raising a substantial sum to replace its current home by July 2025.

Wiltshire Council's initial assessment deemed the current building beyond economical repair, leaving the pre-school with a looming deadline and a sense of despair.

This uncertainty led to a loss of families, casting a shadow over the beloved community preschool's future.

Hayley added: “However, after numerous meetings and discussions with Wiltshire Council and a thorough review of the building survey report, it was discovered that the initial assessment contained inaccuracies.

“As a result, Rainbow Early Years Preschool has secured a lease extension until July 2028. This extension provides valuable time for the preschool to focus on fundraising efforts to secure their future.”

While the immediate pressure has eased, the need for funding remains critical and Rainbow Early Years Preschool is actively seeking support through various initiatives.

One notable partnership is with The Female of The Species band, who are hosting their 9th annual charity event on Saturday, September 21 at Seend Community Centre.

This adults-only event promises a night of live music, food, a bar, and fun activities, with tickets available for £15. The band will be donating the proceeds to support Rainbow Early Years.

Hayley added: “Every bit of support helps. We are so grateful for the community's ongoing support, and we are confident that together, we can ensure the future of Rainbow Early Years Preschool.”
