Wiltshire Council officers are investigating reports of an unauthorised encampment close to one of Wiltshire’s famous white horse landmarks.
They received reports of caravans and towing vehicles parked up near the White Horse overlooking Bratton and Westbury.
A motorhome and at least two vehicles were seen parked up on land overlooking the beauty spot and have been there for several days, according to one man who regularly visits the site.
Cllr Nick Holder, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for highways and street scene, said: “We have received a report of an unauthorised encampment near Westbury White Horse and officers will visit the area shortly to ascertain the exact location.
“If the land is owned by Wiltshire Council, the relevant welfare checks will be conducted and initial notices to leave the land will be issued.”
