An application for a traveller site is set to go before a planning committee after it received more than 50 objections.
The plans concern land at Dreamlea, on Cricklade Road in Purton Stoke, a village just outside Swindon.
The site is currently used for equestrian purposes and the applicant is requesting permission to convert a recently constructed storage barn into a shared day room and set up two pitches for caravans.
According to the application, the rest of the site would remain for equestrian use, as the horses form “a key part of the applicant’s heritage”.
The document also notes that the family is currently homeless and that the site would be in the best interests of the children for access to education and health care.
However, Purton Parish Council and Cricklade Town Council have objected to the plans and 54 further objection comments were received.
The concerns raised related to issues such as highways safety, noise pollution and the appearance of the development.
Purton Parish Council suggested that another traveller site in the area would be an “overkill”.
A decision will be made at the strategic planning committee meeting on Wednesday, August 14, in Trowbridge County Hall.
The case officer report set to be presented to councillors recommends that they approve the application.
