A Warminster town councillor has called in a planning application to convert a historic listed public house in Warminster into flats and houses.
Cllr Andrew Davis says he would like Wiltshire Council’s Western area planning committee to look at the plans for the Masons Arms in East Street.
A nearby resident, David Deacon, says he has the use of an existing right of way through the Masons Arms car park to his property, which could be blocked by the proposed car parking layout.
Mr Deacon said: “I am the freehold owner of 40 East Street which has a right of way at all times and for all purposes with or without vehicles to have full access to my parking area, across the Masons Arms land.
“The proposed parking layout numbers 6 and 2 for number 8 impedes my right of access, there is also a footpath/right of way which leads from Ridgway Court to East Street, which the said parking spaces are across the footpath.
“Both these accesses are used on a daily basis. If these issues can be addressed then I fully support the application.”
Cllr Davis said: “Concerns have been raised over the use of an established right of way which may be blocked by the layout of the car parking arrangements of this application.
“Having spoken to the planning officer, I believe there is no reason for me to ‘call in’ the listed building permission which goes with his application.”
The plans have been submitted by CPC Planning Consultants in Southbourne, West Sussex, on behalf of Admiral Taverns Piccadilly Ltd.
The first application is to convert the Masons Arms into three one-bedroom apartments, one two-bedroom apartment, and two two-bedroom apartments and build two three-bedroom houses on land at the rear.
The second is asking for listed building consent to convert the historic Grade II listed pub, which is in a 400-year-old building and has recently been taken over by a new owner.
The plans include using the existing access from East Street, with associated parking for up to ten vehicles, and hard and soft landscaping.
They are due to be considered by Warminster Town Council’s planning advisory committee on Monday, August 12.
Consultation ends on August 16 and Wiltshire Council is due to decide the applications by September 10.
