Two large banners destined for Westbury high street have officially been given the go-ahead by Wiltshire Council.

The banners are eight metres wide and are designed to welcome people on either end of the high street.

Planning permission for the advertisements was applied for by Westbury Town Council at the beginning of June and approval was sent through on Friday, July 26.

The banners have been funded through Wiltshire Council’s Towns Programme Grant.

Wiltshire Council has allocated £1m a year since 2021 to support high street activity after the economic impact of the pandemic increased the vulnerability of the town centres across the county.

The case officer for the Westbury banners application concluded: "Viewed within the existing context of the retail properties lining this area of the High Street, it is considered that the proposed development would have minimal adverse visual impact on the surrounding area due to their location and design.

"The use of sympathetic materials would ensure the proposal would integrate into the surrounding setting and existing street scene.

"It is considered that the advertisements would by virtue of their height, scale and design constitute acceptable additions to the host building and application site area."
