Wales & West Utilities will start work on Thursday, July 25 on a £300,000 upgrade of part of the gas network in Westbury.
The gas emergency and pipeline service says the investment in the Eden Vale Road and Station Road areas is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses for years to come.
Barring any engineering difficulties, the work is expected to be completed during November.
Simon Lee, of Wales & West Utilities, who is managing the gas pipe upgrade work, said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Wiltshire.
“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Wiltshire Council, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place as the works progress.
This includes:
Eden Vale Road
- Phase One: a road closure between Matravers Close and Redland Lane (July 25 – September 5)
- Phase Two: a northbound-only, one-way system will be in place between the junctions of Leigh Road and Redland Lane (August 27 – September 17)
- Phase Three: a northbound only, one-way system will be in place between the junctions of Station Road and Matravers Close (September 16 – October 6)
Station Road:
- Phase Four: a northbound-only, one-way system will be in place on the section of Station Road between A350 West End and Eden Vale Road (September 30 – October 11)
