Plans to crack down on drivers parking or stopping on a major A-road beside a Wiltshire school have been revealed.

Wiltshire Council is currently running a consultation on a planned scheme to introduce “no waiting at any time” restrictions on sections of the A4 London Road in Calne.

This includes the parts of the busy route outside Holy Trinity Church of England Academy, Holy Trinity Church, and Wessington Court.

In some of these areas, no waiting zones already exist on the western side of the road and would be expanded to the eastern side.

The council says it is looking to move forward with the plans to improve “road safety for traffic and pedestrians outside Holy Trinity Church of England Academy.”

In a statement of reasons for the proposal, a spokesperson said: “For avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising.”

If implemented, the order would prohibit vehicles from stopping or parking in the road.

A public consultation on this proposal will run until August 5, during which time residents can object to or support the plans by commenting online, by post, or by email.
