A couple who have been married for more than 70 years have been reunited after years apart at a care home in Wiltshire.
This joyous moment took place at the Mavern House Care Home located near Melksham.
Dr Terry Eyre, a 94 year old former lecturer at Brunel University, and Jean Eyre, also 94, had been living separately due to health complications before this heartwarming reunion.
For years now, their daughters have been working hard to bring their parents back together again - a feat that was made possible when Ms Eyre joined her husband at Mavern House.
The lovebirds, who celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary during their time apart, are reported to be inseparable now.
The couple's story starts in a youth club in Slough, where fate connected these two resilient individuals.
Mr Eyre hailed from Wales, moving to England after a mining accident involving his father, while his wife, originally from Warrington, moved south after her father was killed in a tragic motorbike accident.
The war years added a chapter to their book, filled with memories of seeking shelter from bombings and Mr Eyre sending daily letters to Ms Eyre during his National Service tour.
Following their marriage in 1952, the couple had two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Despite leaving school at the age of 15, Mr Eyre pursued education at a night school, leading him to become Doctor of Science.
His expertise in metals and their properties placed him in authority in his field, running his own research department at Brunel University.
Louise Watts, the couple's daughter, said: "It was so wonderful to finally be able to reunite Mum and Dad.
"They belong together and we’ve been trying for so long to find a place where they can both get the care that they need and where they’ll be happy.
"The change in them since they’ve been reunited has been incredible, they are so much happier and more content, it’s so heartening to see."
Rosie Hardie, Mavern House care home manager said: "It was a privilege to play a small part in the reunion of Terry and Jean.
"Their evident happiness at being back together has resonated around the home and we are all so delighted for them.
"They are a very popular couple here at Mavern House and we are looking forward to celebrating their 72th wedding anniversary with them and their family in September."
