A Wiltshire estate is celebrating the 250th anniversary of oxygen being discovered in its laboratories.
Bowood House & Gardens, set within the picturesque Wiltshire landscapes and home of the Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne, is commemorating the occasion of Dr Joseph Priestley isolating oxygen there for the first time 250 years ago.
To honour the occasion, the estate has launched a bespoke 'A New Pure Air' exhibition, designed to enlighten visitors about the crucial discovery.
Additionally, a specially curated Dr Joseph Priestley Tour has been introduced.
Costumed guides reveal the intricate tale of Dr Priestley, his profound scientific acumen, his involvement with politics, his employment under the 1st Marquess of Lansdowne, and the reasons behind his emigration to the USA.
Rob Miller, a house guide at Bowood House, expressed his enthusiasm: "We are excited to welcome visitors to celebrate this landmark anniversary and teach the next generation all about the great works of Dr John Priestley.
"This summer, Bowood House & Gardens is offering something for everyone, from history enthusiasts to children, couples, and families."
Apart from the anniversary celebrations, Bowood House & Gardens promises an eclectic mix of other events throughout the year.
These include the Classic Ibiza celebration, the Open Air Adventure Cinema featuring popular films like Top Gun, Mamma Mia and Pretty Woman in July, along with various outdoor theatre productions.
The line up includes adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, As You Like It and Five Children & It.
Private Walled Garden tours are scheduled to return, coinciding with the Wiltshire Game and Country Fair in August.
Visitors can take part in the Summer Explorer activities, endeavouring to complete worksheets while wandering the grounds, and engaging in Muds & Guts outdoor activities.
The stately home and gardens are accessible until November 3.
Younger guests can delight in the Adventure Playground which is equipped with a full-sized pirate ship, aerial rope walks, tractor trails, and the famous space dive, a hair-raising 19ft vertical drop super slide.
Visitors wishing to immerse fully in the estate can opt to stay at the Bowood Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort.
This boutique hotel provides luxurious accommodation and unparalleled leisure facilities, including a top-rated spa and a PGA Championship Golf Course.
