A child has been caught behind the wheel of a 4x4 on the roads of Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Police's Roads Policing Unit (RPU) noticed the large Suzuki car on the A350 in Westbury.

Police said it was then 'quickly dumped down a lane'.

Police were able to swiftly track down the driver and a passenger and discovered that the driver was only 15 years old.

In the UK, you can apply for a provisional driving licence when you are 15 years and nine months old but in most cases, you cannot start driving a car until you are 17.

You can drive a car when you are 16 if you get, or have applied for, the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

The car had no MOT and no tax, and the driver was not insured or licensed.

Police officers decided to seize the car.

The incident was posted on the Wilts Specialist Ops Twitter account, which provides updates on the county's Roads Policing Unit (RPU) and Armed Response Group (ARG).

The tweet said: "This vehicle was seen on the A350 in Westbury by #RPU. The vehicle quickly got dumped down a lane however driver and passenger were quickly detained.

"Driver had bought it that day, only being 15 and with no licence, no insurance, no MOT and no tax. Vehicle #seized."
