A3102 crash: Update on woman who suffered 'severe' injuries

Melissa Currant, from Calne, suffered injuries initially described as “life threatening” by police in an incident on the A3102 at Tockenham Wick on Friday, July 5.

She was rushed to hospital and has since undergone around 17 hours of surgery with more operations planned.

The 30-year-old’s family has provided a comprehensive update on her injuries, which include two broken legs, a broken arm and shoulder, a fractured pelvis, and internal organ injuries.

Family described Melissa as the “life and soul” of the party and can’t wait for her to be back home.

They said: “Melissa is the life and soul of any party and always there to help people when they need it.

“She will help anyone if she can.

“She is a fun-loving auntie to her nieces and nephew as well and they can’t wait for her to be back home again.”

Melissa’s friends Liam and Sean Wiggins have since launched a fundraising page to help with any regular outgoings, like rent, bills, and living costs, while she continues her recovery.

They added: “We were all shocked to receive phone calls last Friday morning with news of Melissa’s incident but the seriousness of the situation didn’t become fully apparent until images of the collision were shared amongst family, friends, and colleagues.

“It was then a very anxious wait for news on Melissa’s condition and the severity of her injuries.

“As it became apparent what the extent of her injuries were, it became clearer that a prolonged stay in hospital was looking increasingly likely.”

In just a few days, the fundraiser has received £2,675 in donations and has a target of £10,000.

Liam Wiggins said: “The fundraiser was created on Saturday evening and we have all been absolutely blown away by the generosity of the donations received.

“We would like to thank each and every person who has donated, it will be a huge help towards Melissa’s recovery.

“We would also like to thank the emergency crews who attended the scene on Friday and also the fantastic doctors and nurses at the hospital that are continuing to care for Melissa at this time.”

Wiltshire Police has urged any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

The fundraiser has so far raised more than £2,500.
