A Wiltshire pub is set for a revamp after new landlords “increased” the venue’s trade.

Last May, Wiltshire based Broadtown Brewery, run by Jason and Vincenza Bayliffe, took over The Three Crowns pub on The Causeway in Chippenham.

At the time Luke Monday and Annie Macefield were installed as the pub’s tenants, after the departure of long-serving landlord Steve Jenner, and Broadtown says business has since improved.

The brewery has now submitted a planning application to make alterations to the inside of the building and add ancillary accommodation by converting the current outbuilding.

This will include the creation of a new bar area, the reinstatement of historical signage, the replacement of windows with ones that better match the building, and other redecoration around the site.

The plans are also designed to provide staff working unsociable hours at the pub with accommodation to prevent them travelling off-site late at night.

In its design and access statement Broadtown Brewery said: “The Three Crowns is the hub of the local community and provides social value.

“Business has increased considerably since (the) pandemic and running costs have risen due to inflation.

“This method of staff staying on site is much more sustainable…it is more economical and a safer option after long late hours.”

Wiltshire Council has until August 5 to determine the application.
