20mph speed limits could be introduced on a host of new roads in a Wiltshire town.

Wiltshire Council is currently running a consultation on plans to enforce 20mph speed limits on several roads at the 200-home High Penn Park development in Calne.

This includes the complete length of Clover Grove, Finch Lane, Hawthorne Close, Juniper Close, Larkspur Drive, Lovage Lane, Lupin Close, Sorrel Street, Sparrow Crescent, and Sycamore Drive.

The major development, off Oxford Road on the edge of Calne, entered the final stages of building last year after six years of construction.

The roads through the estate were designed to be 20mph and the cost of enforcing the scheme will be funded by developer Hill Homes.

Wiltshire Council is running a public consultation, on the traffic regulation order necessary to implement the speed limits, until July 22.

A spokesperson for the council said: “The roads known as High Penn, which have been granted planning permission and are covered by a Section 38 agreement with the Council, have been designed and built to be self-enforcing 20mph.

“The developer will meet the costs of the signage, traffic regulation order, and implementation.”

Calne town councillors raised no objections to the proposal.
