More than 90 people attended the launch of a housing development in Semington last weekend.

The launch of Barratt David Wilson Homes South West's Buckley Gardens saw the release of the site's Part L energy-efficient homes.

Two plots were reserved and three part exchange applications were submitted.

Prospective buyers had the opportunity to view the three and five bedroom show homes, talk with the sales team and learn more about the various buying options, including the part-exchange scheme.

Sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, Louise Ware, said: "Two sales and three part exchange applications over a single weekend is testament to the quality and desirability of our homes.

"This is our first fully Part L compliant development where the A/B EPC-rated properties are highly efficient, more environmentally friendly and have lower energy bills."

Part L homes focus on improving properties’ energy-efficiency credentials, leading to lower energy usage for heating, lighting, and daily needs, ultimately saving homeowners money.

The new requirements require buildings to meet higher standards, reducing CO2 emissions by 31 per cent.

These measures serve as an interim step towards the Future Homes Standard, set to arrive in 2025.

At Buckley Gardens, Part L compliance translates into several energy-efficient features.

Each house comes equipped with an electric car charging point, argon-filled double glazing and a waste water heat recovery system that works by extracting the heat from the water the shower or bath sends down the drain.

The heat is then used to warm the incoming mains water.

Ms Ware said the properties are up to 74 per cent cheaper to run and provide possible savings of £2,590 annually on energy bills.

The homes also feature decentralised mechanical extract ventilation which is designed to draw moisture laden air out of wet rooms such as bathrooms, utility rooms and kitchens, photovoltaic panels that turn sunlight into electricity, and insulation to reduce heat loss.

Ms Ware continued: "Building Part L properties at Buckley Gardens is a significant step towards helping homeowners save money.

"We aim to provide our customers with the best of both worlds – beautiful properties that are environmentally-friendly."

Located to the north of the Hampton Park commercial area, Buckley Gardens includes 144 two, three, four and five-bedroom properties plus 43 affordable homes.

It is surrounded by seven acres of open space and will also include new ponds and a play area and more than 100 new trees.
