Firefighters have attended to a large field fire in Bemerton Heath.

On Tuesday, June 18 at around 6pm, firefighters were called after reports of a fire in the open on Bemerton Heath.

Fire engines were sent from Salisbury, Shaftesbury, Trowbridge and Fordingbridge to deal with the blaze in a field, with electricity pylons running through it.

A water carrier from Wilton was also sent, with approximately 20 firefighters at the scene to tackle the blaze.

Upon arrival firefighters found a large area of heath alight, using hole reel jets to extinguish the fire, with crews remaining on scene to dampen down until 9pm. No one was hurt in the incident.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called at 6:06pm (on Tuesday, June 16) to reports of a fire in the open on Bemerton Heath.  

"Four fire engines were sent from Salisbury, Shaftesbury, Trowbridge, Fordingbridge (Hampshire FRS) and a water carrier from Wilton  (approximately 20 firefighters). 

"On arrival the crews found a large area of heath alight and used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.  The crews remained on scene damping down until 9pm.

"Firefighters returned to the incident at 11pm to check for hotspots, there were none."
