The owner of a Wiltshire toy shop who has won a prestigious award for his commitment to service has said it’s all down to ‘teamwork’.

Clive Brown has owned The Toy Shop on Melksham High Street for 55 years and his son Matthew manages the Toy Shop in Castle Street, Trowbridge.

He said: "I am over the moon. It is a tremendous prestige for me personally. It came as a surprise when they said they wanted to award it to me.

“I’m just a backroom boy these days. It’s all down to team effort.”

Mr Brown says he and his staff always aim to put the children first and give them time to browse around the shop before they choose a toy or game.

"You expect people to come and take their time. Hopefully, we never chase anyone out of the shop."

The Golden Teddy Awards were created in 2001 by the British Toy and Hobby Association, to reward candidates who have served the industry for more than 15 years.

The BTHA said: “Clive is the perfect example of what a Golden Teddy Award winner should be; someone who is loyal, respected and has served with dedication over a sustained period in the toy industry.”
