Trowbridge’s Town Crier, who has been in the role for 38 years, has been honoured with a top accolade for his dedication to humanitarian services.
Trevor Heeks was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship award, which is the Lions Club International Foundation’s highest form of recognition to acknowledge people who have made a tremendous contribution to humanity.
Trevor said: “I was totally taken by surprise. I knew nothing about it at all, I was lost for words. It’s a worldwide recognition so it means a lot and even now I can’t believe it.

“It’s a gorgeous trophy as well, my grandsons love it. It’s fantastic, unbelievable.”
As Town Crier, Trevor has won over 160 awards and said the highlight of his career was winning a World and European Championship, along with fundraising for a nursing home in America.
He added: “Being a Town Crier has completely opened a world to me which wouldn’t have happened. I’ve travelled the world and I just feel so proud of this award.”
“I go by the motto: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but live today because you only get one chance. I just hope it’s a good day and that’s all you can ask for really.”
