Crump and Son butcher in Royal Wootton Bassett retires

Andy Crump began working at K & EJ Crump and Son in Royal Wootton Bassett when his parents Jean and Keith started the company in 1985.

Since then, the butcher shop has flourished to become one of the oldest and most loved businesses on the High Street, and Andy has worked to continue the legacy that his parents built.

Now after 39 years, Andy has announced that he will retire from Crumps Butchers on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

From the community's reaction, it is clear that the impact Andy and his parents have had on shaping Royal Wootton Bassett is unparalleled.

"After 39 incredible years of serving the wonderful community of Royal Wootton Bassett, the time has come for me to hang up my apron and retire from K & EJ Crump and Son," announced Andy.

"It's been an honour and a privilege to carry on the legacy that my parents, Jean & Keith, began back in 1985.

"To all our loyal customers who have supported us over the years, from the regulars who popped in for their Sunday roast joint to those who trusted us with their special occasions, I want to extend our deepest gratitude. Your unwavering support and trust have meant the world to us.

"And to the dedicated staff members, past and present, who have been the backbone of this establishment, I can't thank you enough."

The butcher has paid particular thanks to his mother Jean and his late father Keith, to whom he says he owes everything to.

"Their vision and dedication laid the foundation for this shop. Their guidance, love, and support have been my driving force," he added.

"Though I may be stepping away from the counter, the spirit of K & EJ Crump and Son will live on in the hearts of all who have been a part of our journey. Thank you, Royal Wootton Bassett, for 39 incredible years."

The company has announced that it will carry on with local butcher James Kavara taking over the reins.

James has been a part of the butcher shop's journey since he was just 13 years old and currently runs the restaurant and cafe The Butcher's Mate next door, so the community can rest assured that Crumps Butchers is in safe hands.

"We have full faith that he will continue the traditions and values that the Crump family has instilled while bringing in fresh perspectives and ideas," said a spokesperson for K & EJ Crump and Son.
