The iconic Wadworth Shires’ new home has been approved after a planning application for their stables has been given the go-ahead by Wiltshire Council.
Sam and George, the famous horses, will be able to move from Devizes to a nearby village, next to a pub alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal.
The application submitted to the council in January suggested the Shire Horses and Sign Shop be housed beside The Barge Inn in Seend Cleeve.
This decision came after the relocation of Wadworth & Co to the new Folly Road Brewhouse in Devizes and the proposed re-development of the Northgate Street site.
The application stated: “The land is in Wadworth’s ownership and provides a suitable location for the Shire Horses and Sign Shop, both have important historical associations with Wadworth and their re-location adjacent to the popular destination bar and dining establishment alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal provide added local and tourism appeal.
“The Shire Horses will graze the paddocks and be visible from the footpaths and the Barge Inn, providing an attractive and welcoming site for customers, locals and visitors to the area.
“The Sign Shop is for the Brewery’s sign writer to create new and repair hanging and pictorial signs, such a traditional feature of Wadworth’s Pubs and Hotels.”
Wiltshire Council informed the applicant of its approval on Wednesday, April 17.
