A football club is set to get a brand-new clubhouse after Wiltshire Council approved a planning application that will allow an extension of its facilities.
Calne Town Football Club has received permission to construct the building on the western side of the Bremhill View football ground.
The club dates back to the 19th century and has been playing at Bremhill View since the early sixties.
The application stated: “Despite hard work by volunteers to secure funds and deliver upgrades to maintain the ground to the standard required by the FA National Ground Grading, Calne Town have operated without a clubhouse of their own for a number of years.
“The lack of such a facility has significantly impeded the ability of the club to generate funds to compete on a financial level comparable with other clubs at the same level and has restricted the ability of the club to serve as a football hub in the community.”
The new clubhouse will be a single-storey building with a footprint of approximately 20m x 8m.
Calne Town Council supported the application and Wiltshire Council received no objections.
In other planning news, a barn at the Old Dairy Parlour in Hullavington could be converted into 8 retail units for local, independent businesses.
These units would accompany the current site activity on the farm as a microbrewery and café.
Meanwhile, Wiltshire Council approved an application for 50 ground-mounted solar panels on Wick Farm, near Heddington.
