STORM Kathleen wreaked traffic havoc at Trowbridge over the weekend when the road closed signs and barriers were blown down in 70mph winds.

They left motorists trying to travel from Fore Street down Wicker Hill to Stallard Street and those using the A361 Hilperton Road from Trowbridge to Devizes to dodge and weave their way around them.

The high winds blew over barriers in Wicker Hill being used for the first phase of the works being made as part of Wiltshire Council’s improvements for pedestrians and cyclists.

The works are being paid for from the £16.3 million received from the government under the Future High Streets Fund.

They also flattened barriers around Wessex Water utility works on the Hilperton Road close to the Trowbridge fire and ambulance stations.

The storm’s impact was felt mostly in south-west and north-west of England and parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Wessex Water has closed the road to Hilperton Village while engineers replace old and outdated water mains pipes.
