ONE of Britain’s most famous naturalists and television presenters is returning to Longleat for the first time in over a decade this May half-term.

Steve Backshall will present an all-new wildlife show, created exclusively for Longleat for nine days from Saturday, May 25 until Sunday, June 2. Tickets are on sale now.

During the show, Steve, who is best known for BBC TV's Deadly 60, will introduce Longleat guests to some of his favourite animals, including birds of prey.

The personality is expected to engage and delight audiences teaching them about the speed and stamina of a variety of creatures, as well as the tactics and adaptations they use for surviving in the wild.

Steve, 50, will take audiences on a journey to the environments the animals call home and bring to life the importance of conserving these habitats and protecting these species for future generations.

The 30-minute live animal show will take place in a specially erected open-air theatre with tiered seating behind the Education Hut. There will be 48 accessible seats per show.

Mr Backshall said: “I can’t wait to be back at Longleat introducing members and guests to an amazing variety of animals and birds of prey, as well as raising much-needed funds to support the critical conservation work that is being done by Tusk.

“My family and I love to visit Longleat - there are more than 100 animal species, a fantastic historic house and plenty of fun for kids in the Adventure Castle playground! It’s an amazing day out with something for everyone,” he added.

Darren Beasley, head of animal operations at Longleat, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Steve back to Longleat to give our valued members and guests the opportunity to learn first-hand about these amazing animals.

“Steve shares Longleat’s love of animals and wildlife conservation, and his passion is infectious.

“It’s been 10 years since Steve last delivered live shows at Longleat and - as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of being open to the public - it is fitting that this fan favourite is returning. We expect tickets to sell out fast.”

‘Steve Backshall Live’ will raise money for Tusk, a UK-based charity which aids conservation throughout Africa by working with local leaders to support their conservation programmes.

TUSK is protecting more than 40 species, including elephants and rhinos, and Longleat guests can help too.

Reservations to ‘Steve Backshall Live’ will be offered as an optional extra when booking a ticket to Longleat. There will be a £1 booking fee, the proceeds from which will be donated to TUSK.
