On Tuesday 6th to Thursday the 8th of February, 45 schools in the Wiltshire area all had the opportunity to perform at The Forum in Bath to raise money for Young Lives Vs Cancer. Overall, they raised over £1800 for the cause.
All the participating schools were given the theme 'Lights, camera, action!' so there were many schools dancing to popular musicals such as: 'Mama Mia', 'Singing In The Rain', and 'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.'
All the schools gave their respective performances all their effort and it was clear to see the time and practice that went into them. In particular, the performances from Clarendon, Chapmanslade, and Bowerhill were exceptionally great.
There was also an incredibly heartwarming video that was played after the interval about Nick Briggs' son who suffers with cancer and how the charity Young Lives Vs Cancer has supported them through their journey. This was an incredible way to raise awareness about the impacts of cancer on young people.
I spoke with an audience member after the show who said:
“I loved it! I thought it was lovely to see all of the young people representing their schools. And I thought it was very well put together as well by the team of the dance festival”
After that, I asked them about their opinions on the short video played after the interval and their response was:
“It was very heartfelt to see. Obviously very sad to watch as a mother, to put yourself in his shoes”
Overall, it was a fantastic event and is definitely worth looking out for next year.
